DSAT is a home-based proctored test and students can take up the test from any remote location online. The test is also available offline. Students are provided with two slots - one in the first half and one in the second half.
DSAT will have multiple-choice questions (MCQ) and candidates will be given 2 hours (120 minutes) to complete the question paper. Each right answer will be awarded 1 mark, and the evaluation does not have negative marking.

Those aspiring to take up undergraduate programs, should have completed their 10+2 education or equivalent in the required field and postgraduate aspirants are expected to have completed their undergraduate program in the required stream.
For undergraduate courses, the questions paper will be mainly based on Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and English.
For engineering, questions will be from topics of classes 11 and 12 in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Books recommended include NCERT textbooks for Class XI and XII, and other books specific to each subject, listed in the site. The question paper pattern will vary with the course opted for and there is no fixed pattern.
For postgraduate courses, the syllabus will be the corresponding undergraduate course, previously completed by the candidate.
Additionally, there will be a General Knowledge, Aptitude and Reasoning test for candidates in various fields.
To score well in a reputed test like DSAT, candidates have to bear a few things in mind. To begin with, it is essential to assess the scope of the syllabus thoroughly and understand the topics and sections. Next is time management. Practice for as many times as it takes to ensure you understand and arrive at the right answer in minimum time. Writing speed and agility is important.
Coming to course material, candidates are advised to go over the syllabus thoroughly and the scope of the topics in each subject. Source the recommended books, learn and mark those topics and then go on to define a study schedule. It is advised that the candidate solves previous year question papers, timing them and mark out those areas that he/ she feels are tough.
It is better to clear doubts right in the beginning and make notes in a way that is best understood by the candidate. Newer concepts and unfamiliar topics are best avoided in the last few days to eliminate tension and confusion.
Each section of each subject must be revised thoroughly, and mock question papers must be attempted several times to avoid tension and complete it well within the stipulated time.
A steady, calm approach is required at the time of preparation and topics must be glanced/ reviewed to avoid last-minute rush and stress.
Candidates are also advised to ensure good health and have adequate sleep to ensure they are alert able at the time of writing the test.
In 2023, DSAT attracted 5786 and 806 scholarships were awarded across various courses, amounting to almost Rs. 6 crores.
