Faculty Dialogues

Discussion by SCMS faculty members on Key Learnings from the Technology Showcasing and Networking Meet on CFTRI Food and Millet Technologies

During the two-day event "Technology Showcasing and Networking Meet of CFTRI Food and Millet Technologies" held at CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru (19-20 September 2024), organized by CSIR-NIScPR in collaboration with UBA and VIBHA, several important insights emerged. These were discussed during the research and publication review meeting at the School of Commerce and Management Studies, Dayananda Sagar University. The key learnings include:

Contributions to Combating Malnutrition: CSIR-CFTRI's significant efforts in addressing malnutrition were highlighted, with innovations such as infant food from buffalo milk, parboiling rice technology, virgin coconut oil, spice and oil processing, and automation solutions for traditional foods like dosa, idli, ragi ball and chapatti.

Nutraceutical Research and Skill Development: The institute's ongoing work in nutraceutical research, along with its initiatives to bridge the skills gap in the food industry, was emphasized. Courses like the M.Sc. in Food Technology and the International School of Milling Technology play a vital role in this regard.

Technological Advances: Key technological advancements in fruit and vegetable processing, grains, traditional foods, and spices were showcased.

Funding Schemes for Agriculture: The event also shed light on various funding schemes such as the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), and Retail Asset Credit Centre (RACC), which support the establishment of agricultural units.


Faculty Dialogues

Dr Gautam Mitra, Professor Emeritus at Brunel University, UK engaged our faculty this afternoon and spoke on Fin-tech and Risk under the aegis of Faculty Dialogues.

Dr Mitra is an expert in financial modelling and risk management and has over five decades of teaching and training experience. Since 1965 Professor Mitra has researched and published extensively in leading topics of Computer Science, Computational Optimisation and Modelling ; these research results cover many aspects of Operational Research and applied computing.


Joys of Data Science

Dr.Sarabjot Singh Anand | Co-Founder & Chief Data Scientist Tatras Data delivered a talk on the joys of data science at SCMS this morning.
He has a PhD in data mining and machine learning from Ulster University, UK. He was formerly a professor at Warwick University.
Students, faculty and staff attended the talk.
