Dr. M V Hanumantha Rao
Dr. Hanumantha Rao is currently a Research Professor in Physics at Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru. He received dual Masters degrees (M.Sc., and M.Tech) from IIT, Delhi and doctorate degree in Physics from IIT, Kharagpur after graduate study at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA.
His postdoctoral work was at Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (CMET), Pune as a Thin Films and Materials Scientist, with significant contribution to indigenously develop thick film resistor paste compositions for HMC electronics. He joined ISRO in 1999 and was there till his superannuation.
At LEOS- ISRO, while working as Thin films scientist, Dr. Rao has developed a variety of optical coatings in UV, visible and IR for payload optics. He pursued parallel development of optics for science payload systems of Chandrayan 1 & 2 and Mars Orbiter Mission and in realization of other satellite based geo-imaging payload optics. He published about 20 research papers on thin films science and optical fabrication and, science instruments.
He is a Life Member of Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), Indian Vacuum Society (IVS), Instrument Society of India, Indian Society for Systems Engineering and Astronautical Society of India (ASI). He is a Fellow of Optical Society of India (OSI).
He was awarded ISRO team award twice for his contributions to Lyman Alpha Photometer science instrument for MOM and for 1-meter class space optics development.
