DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Dr. Sharatkumar Variyar was awarded a research grant of Rs. 16.24 lakhs by the Indian Knowledge Systems Division of AICTE for a 2 year project on "Production of coloured cotton using ancient chemical formulations from the Sanskrit text Vishvavallabha". Dr. Sreenivasa Rao Amaraneni of Chemistry Department, School of Engineering is the co-Principal Investigator. This proof-of-concept research aims at using "Vrikshayurveda" prescriptions and phytochemical studies for production of coloured cotton bolls from a plant that originally produces white cotton bolls.
Technology Development for direct absorption of Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere
Nov. 17, 2022 was a historic day for DSU, as the in-house developed CO 2 absorption technology transferred by the Hon. Vice Chancellor, DSU to Mr Faisal Nayaab, CEO, M/S CLENV Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, in the presence of dignitaries. Fig. 2 shows a photograph on the occasion of the technology transfer.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon. VC stated that for the first time in the history of DSU, a technology was being transferred to the Society and hoped that such activities would increase in the days to come. He also said that DSU would greatly support such initiatives and interactions with entrepreneurs.
