Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science)
B.Tech CSE (Data Science) is a 4-year undergraduate degree programme. Data Science teaches the students how to combine machine learning techniques, algorithms, tools, business acumen and mathematics and apply on raw data to extract insight information from it. In short, technology, algorithm development and data inference are blended together to solve complex problems analytically in Data Science.
Throughout the entire duration of the programme, the students are taught how to amalgamate business knowledge, tools and statistics to generate business value in creative ways.
The four-year undergraduate curriculum includes a detailed delivery of Basic Sciences, Mathematical Foundations, Statistical Foundations, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Deep Learning, and Data Visualization.
The curriculum imparts 21st century skills having the following components: Liberal education aspects for all round development, courses that trigger new age skills, project based learning, special topics (hands-on sessions on multiple topics with mentoring from expert), option for MOOC, UG Research Project/Product Development/Internships. The curriculum focuses on Liberal Art Courses, Foundation Courses, Professional Courses, and Electives that helps them build expertise in some specialized areas. The career path initially starts as Junior/Associate data scientist whose responsibilities include: test new ideas, debugs, and refactor existing models. After gaining work experience of one-three years, they can level up their career to Senior Data Scientist or Machine Learning and AI Engineer where they are expected to build well-architected products. The senior data scientist experience and expertise can lead to Principal Data Scientist where they involve around high-impact business projects.

Additional Value-Added Certifications:
B Tech students can opt to earn the requisite credits to be awarded a Minor in other domains such as Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanical, Management and Entrepreneurship. It allows a student to get basic competencies in computer science and additionally, to acquire knowledge/skills in a cross domain. To obtain a Minor certification, the student should earn 18-20 additional credits in the chosen allied domain during the 4-year span of the B.Tech program.
B.Tech CSE students can obtain a specialization certificate by earning additional 18-20 credits in courses related to highly specialized and new-age technologies. The courses of study including the hands-on components will be specified by the department.
To obtain the B.Tech CSE Honours Degree, additional 18-20 credits are to be earned which demonstrates ability of Self Learning and/or research. The self-learning component can be completed through SWAYAM /NPTEL /any other approved MOOC (massive open online course) platform. The courses should be selected from the list of courses approved by the CSE department. The research component involves credits obtained by doing research in premier institutes such as IITs/IISc or at DSU. A student has to undertake these courses from III to VIII semester over and above the normal prescribed courses comprising of 160 credits. Students will receive B.Tech with Honors degree on successful completion of these courses.
With an inclusion of Summer Internships, students get practical exposure to professional work environment. Students have an opportunity to take up the Internship Program in reputed industry/academic institute/R&D/Government organizations. The department has MoU with top companies to benefit students to carry out research projects and internship.
Students carry out mini projects in many courses across the semesters to strengthen the understanding of fundamentals through practical application of theoretical concepts. Minor projects are included in the curriculum for the all-round development of students that shape them for a better future.
There is the Major project to carry out, in the final year to enhance the technical caliber of students. Projects related to societal, cutting edge and research areas are currently being pursued by students. The students are also encouraged to carryout projects in industries/reputed organizations.
Pass in PUC / 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Electronics / Technical Vocational subjects and obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidate belonging to SC/ST & OBC category) in the above subjects taken together, of any Board recognized by the respective State Governments / Central Government / Union Territories or any other qualification recognized as equivalent there to.
