REPORT ON LAMP LIGHTING AND OATH TAKING CEREMONY 31.01.2020
The lamp lighting ceremony is an auspicious occasion in every nurse’s life, held in reverence to Florence Nightingale, the lady with the lamp. Nursing is the only profession that follows lamp lighting ceremony. Light, as a symbol of knowledge, removes ignorance and is a lasting wealth by which lots could be achieved.
The lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony for the 5th Batch of B.Sc Nursing students of Dayananda Sagar College of Nursing was held on 31/01/2020 at CD Sagar Auditorium, Dayananda Sagar University.
PROGRAMME REPORT
The programme started with the procession by the dignitaries followed by the Budding nurses. The Chief Guest of the programme was Ms.Antonia P, Director-Development & Education for Patient care and Nursing Services, Chandramma Sagar Institute of Medical Education & Research, presided by Prof. Dr.K. Muthuchelian Pro Vice Chancellor, DSU ,Dr.V.Murugan, Dean, School of Health Sciences.
Invocation by Bsc.Nursing II year students followed by lighting the lamp by Dignitaries.
Mrs.Priya P M, Tutor, College of Nursing welcomed the gathering .
Dr.Sharmila J ,Principal.CONS,DSU presented the annual report for the year 2018-2019.
First year B.Sc. Nursing students lit the lamp by symbolic of entry into sacred field of Nursing. Oath was administered by Chief Guest Mrs.Antonia All students were rendered into the profession by taking the nurses oath delivery. The lamp lighting ceremony formally recognises the students’ entry into the nursing profession. The fresher batch offered a dedication song-Showers of blessing by III year BSc.Nursing students.
The chief Guest Mrs.Antonia -An Adept Nursing Director with more than 25years of professional experience as a Practitioner, Educator, Trainer, Life Coach, Administrator, Researcher and Strategist. Madam is currently functioning as Director-Development and Education for Patient Care and Nursing Services at Chandramma Sagar Institution for Medical Education and Research, and Senior Principal Assessor-NABH (Quality Council of India), Safe-I, PEH, Nursing Service Excellence Certification.
In her address, Ms.Antonia P talked about the nursing history and the nursing leadership with special emphasis on ethical commitment, quality and safety in patient care,e ffective communication and the dedication to the profession.
Prof. Dr.K. Muthuchelian Pro Vice Chancellor, who presided the function congratulated the New Nightingales and highlighted the quality of Nursing education and etiquette to become a noble Nurse in his speech.
Prof.Dr.V.Murugan.Dean,School of Health Sciences , congratulate the budding nurses and appreciated the Principal, teaching faculty and students for their successful organization of the event.He gave a short message focusing the quality management in nursing profession.
Mrs.Shivaleela, HOD, Paediatric Nursing delivered Vote of Thanks.
The Program ended with National Anthem and return of academic procession.
The programme started at 10.30 am and adjourned at 1.00pm followed by lunch.
