Seminar on "Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Education , being organised by NAAC- IQAC and College of Physiotherapy, DSU.
The Seminar on “Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Education” was organized by NAAC- IQAC and College of Physiotherapy, Dayananda Sagar University on 01st January 2020 at CS Gallery room DSCE, building no 13 ground floor, Kumaraswamy layout, Bengaluru - 78. The speakers are Dr.Chandrashekar Janakiram, Prof and HOD, Dept of Public Health Dentistry , Amritha School of Dentistry, Kochi and Dr.Nagesh Prof and HOD ,Dept of Public Health Dentistry, DSCDS respectively .
The session started with a welcome note by our pro vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. K. Muthuchelian and Dr Anil T John, Principal (College of Physiotherapy, DSU).
The workshop comprised of two sessions, in which the first session was held by Dr. Chandrashekhar. He presented scientific values, misconduct in research and emphasized on fabrication, falsification and plagiarism (FFP) talking about few studies which prove the existence of FFP. He also explained the effect of plagiarism and causes of why it still happens in the research field, while also talking about “white bull effect” and how the research is plagiarized without taking permission or giving credit for ideas taken, or because they are under pressure or in order to improve their place in research field for having number of publication for which he also gave examples of various studies which misconduct their studies. He also stated,how fake studies or plagiarism are more common in biomedical field of science and how to check for plagiarism and various available resources for it and the problems faced by South Asian researchers in publishing their articles in standard journals.
The second session was preceded over by Dr Nagesh who enlightened us about the topic – The academic integrity and professional values. He started by talking about the values important in professional aspect where how we being in academics play a crucial role in in practice and teaching these values to students. Talking about the different values he focused more on the values like honesty and trust, by also talking to us about some great stories by great leaders in the past and how it brings a difference in profession and how essential it is. He also stated about how in current era it is fading. He also put forward his clinical experience and exposure and real-lifeexperiences in order to adapt these values in our day-to-day life as well as it’s need in our profession. He conducted by co-relating spirituality and the basis of research integrity and to make it a blend for conducting a good research.
The workshop for the day winds up by honoring our speakers and a vote of thanks by Dr Anil T John, Principal College of Physiotherapy, DSU.
