Dr. Anoop R Markande
Assistant Professor
Dr. Anoop R. Markande brings more than 15 years of teaching and research experience to the Department of Microbiology at Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru. He completed his Ph.D. in Microbiology at The M. S. University of Baroda, following his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Karnatak University, Dharwad. His research interests lie at the exciting interface of microbial ecology and biotechnology, focusing on microbial biosurfactants, functional amyloids, biofilms, haloarchaea, and microbial magnetic nanoparticles with applications in bioremediation, health, food, and micro-robotics. Dr. Markande has published widely, with more than 30 international research papers, several book chapters, and numerous conference presentations to his credit. In the classroom and laboratory, he is known for an interactive and hands-on teaching style that inspires curiosity and innovation. He has supervised over 60 postgraduate dissertations and is a recognized Ph.D. guide, nurturing the next generation of microbiologists. His contributions have been recognized with national fellowships, research awards, and international travel grants. In addition to research and teaching, he actively mentors young innovators through entrepreneurship development programs, bridging science with real-world impact.

Research Interests at DSU - Application of microbial biomolecules such as amphiphiles (amyloids and biosurfactants), enzymes, Biomagnetism and nanoparticles in exploring surface interactions, biodegradation, food science, and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) within microbial technology and nanotechnology
