Dr. Vineetha MS
Assistant Professor
Dr. Vineetha M. S. is an Assistant Professor at the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Dayananda Sagar Institutions, Bangalore. She holds a B.Sc. in Biotechnology from Mangalore University, an M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Bangalore University, and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Jain University, where she was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship.
Her doctoral work focused on the isolation and purification of herbal bioactive compounds as antidotes for snakebite, specifically targeting venoms from Naja naja (Indian cobra) and Echis carinatus (saw-scaled viper). Building on this expertise, she has successfully secured government and institutional funding, including a VGST (Vision Group on Science and Technology) research grant, to advance the development of synthetic and natural small-molecule inhibitors against Indian snake venoms, progressing this research toward preclinical validation.
Dr. Vineetha’s research expertise spans toxicology, snakebite therapeutics, enzymology, industrial biotechnology (co-culture engineering, biopolymer and biomaterial production), molecular biology, microbiology, phytochemistry, and biotechnology. She is proficient in the screening, isolation, purification, and characterization of enzymes and phytochemicals, with hands-on expertise in advanced purification techniques such as HPLC, GLC, TLC, ion-exchange, gel-filtration, and affinity chromatography. She also has extensive experience with in vivo (mice) and in vitro (chick embryo) models for therapeutic and toxicological studies.
She has guided student-led innovation projects recognized by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology. With 17 peer-reviewed publications (H-index: 9) and recognition at national forums—including the Best Poster Award at the 85th Society of Biological Chemists (SBC) Annual Meeting—she has established herself as an emerging leader in biotechnology research. Her recent innovations in microbial biotechnology and nanocomposite biomaterials have advanced to the stage of two separate patent applications, underscoring her commitment to translating fundamental discoveries into innovative healthcare solutions.
