Dr. Rajesh Ranjan Ravi
Assistant Professor
Academics: Dr. Rajesh Ranjan Ravi is an accomplished mechanical engineer specializing in advanced manufacturing processes with a strong research and academic foundation. He holds a M.Tech degree from IIT Dhanbad and a Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where his work focused on developing an analytical modelling and methodology to predict the part geometrical aspects prior to enhancing the hole quality in abrasive waterjet trepanning through innovative hybrid and submerged machining strategies. His research has contributed significantly to developing environmentally friendly, high-precision machining techniques for aerospace, biomedical, and semiconductor applications. He also contributes to the postdoctoral (IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation) development of smart rotary boring bars integrated with IIoT capabilities for performance monitoring.
Projects: With a keen interest in applied research and industrial collaboration, Dr. Ravi has led multiple high-impact projects funded by DST, DAE, and CERN. He has established advanced micro-abrasive waterjet laboratories to fabricate precision fixtures for muon detectors for the CERN Project. His expertise extends to machining complex composite materials, medical surface engineering, and single-crystal silicon processing using micro-abrasive waterjet technology.
Academic Responsibilities: Beyond research, he has actively contributed to academia as a teaching assistant, workshop supervisor, and coordinator for high-precision machine tool training programs. As a core IIT Madras Research Club member and former Assistant Warden, he has demonstrated strong leadership, team management, and mentoring skills.
Academic skills: Dr. Ravi's technical proficiency includes hands-on experience with high-pressure waterjet systems, SEM, CMM, confocal microscopy, profilometry, and a range of metrology and characterization tools. He is adept in statistical process optimization using DOE, MATLAB, and Minitab, and has co- authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers.
