Biochemistry deals with complex processes in life in terms of molecules, their structure and function, reactions and pathways in which they participate and the mechanisms involved therein. It is a fundamental subject which forms the bedrock of Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Medicine. Broad areas covered in the program are Chemistry, Drug Synthesis, Analytical Techniques, Enzymology, Protein purification, Structural Biology, Biomolecules, Metabolism, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. The Department has highly qualified and experienced teachers committed to excellence in teaching and research. The laboratories are well equipped with Spectrophotometers, Colorimeters, pH meters, Homogenizers, Incubators, Digital balances, Cooling centrifuges, PCR, FPLC and other labware required for kinetic studies of enzymes, titration and biomolecular separation through paper and thin layer chromatography. The faculty along with students have published several research papers in national and international journals and also presented their research work in such conferences.

The Department has come into existence to create quality graduates to serve the needs of biotech and allied industries, academia and research institutes. Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary field with wider applications as in the improvement of plants, animals and microbes, development of new and safer medicines, medical diagnosis, treatment of genetic disorders, production of industrial chemicals, etc.
The faculty members are highly qualified, experienced, research-oriented and dedicated to teaching as well as research. Apart from regular teaching, faculties also guide students for research projects and for competitive examinations like GATE, NET and KSLET. The Department also aims to foster value based education by diligently exposing students to both fundamental and applied aspects of Biotechnology. The course curriculum is well designed by eminent persons from industry, academia, and research institutes to train and impart skills in the multidisciplinary field of Biotechnology. In addition, the Department has strong industry-academia linkages and partnerships with research institutions to provide opportunities to students to acquire knowledge, practical experience and pursue research.

Microbiology comprises virology, bacteriology, mycology and immunology and prepares the students for a detailed study of general characteristics of pathogenic and non-pathogenic microbes. It has received tremendous attention of the young minds and scientists by virtue of its application in agriculture, industry and medicine. The department has well-equipped laboratories to train and provide hands-on experience that cater the needs of industries. It has high end equipments such as PCR, UV Spectrophotometer, Cooling centrifuge, Binocular microscopes, Shaker incubator, Colony counter, etc,. In addition to teaching, the faculty members are also involved in active research and have published several papers. The students are encouraged to undertake research programs by the faculty and to present their research findings in national and international conferences. The Department with all its facility is committed for overall development of its students in terms of both intellectual and personality development.

Genetics encompasses fundamental as well as applied subjects which help the student to understand the genetic mechanism which in turn plays an important role in the field of medical, agricultural and animal improvement. The Department has well qualified, experienced and committed faculty members involved in teaching and they provide the students indispensable inputs to explore the potential of Genetics towards career development. It has well-equipped laboratories with good infrastructure such as Incubator, Digital balance, Binocular microscopes, pH meter, Colorimeter, Electrophoresis units, Cooling centrifuge, Orbital shaker, Deep freezer, etc. The faculty members encourage and guide the students to undertake projects to get research exposure.
