International Conference on Technology in Redefining Health
The faculty and students of the School presented their research work in the International Conference on Technology in Redefining Health organized by the Mount Carmel College on 22nd and 23rd November, 2017. Eminent speakers from DRDO, IISc, NIMHANS, AIIMS and University of Pahang, Malaysia and NUS, Singapore spoke about innovations in healthcare industry. SBAS students secured the best presentation award.
One Day Seminar on “Recent Trends in Biological and Health Science”
On 16th November, the School organized a One Day Seminar on “Recent Trends in Biological and Health Science” along with the Association of Microbiologists of India, Bangalore Chapter, at the Dr. C. D. Sagar Auditorium. The speakers of the morning secession comprised of: Dr. Amresh Bhaganagare, Associate Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, BMC & VH, Bangalore along with Dr, Ravi Krovidhi, Lead Scientist, Biopharmaceutical Development, Syngene (Biocon). The afternoon talks were delivered by Dr. Anirudha Lakshminarasimhan, senior scientist, Tata Institute for Genetics and Society and Dr. Himanshu Agarwal from Jubilant Biosys.
Genomic Awareness Program
A Genomic Awareness Program was organized by the School with Bionivid Private Ltd on 10th October 2017. The morning event included a talk for UG and PG students by the company analysts to introduce them to Genome Informatics and also share knowledge on various career opportunities in academia and industry respectively.
An industrial Visit was organized by the School for the final year BSc students on 14th- 16th September, 2017. The three-day visit was done to improve the practical knowledge of the students. The companies visited were:
Vipragen – animal house facilities, concept of clean and dirty corridor, autopsy room, tissue processing, staining and viewing under microscope.
Proseta – Cell culture facilities, cold room, pharmacetucial analysis of drug samples.
Wellison Nutraceuticals – Production of algal mass from lab to field, collection of mass, freeze drying and formation into capsules
Centennial Lecture Series
As part of the Centennial Lecture Series, Prof Surya Singh, from the Department of Biochemistry in Osmania University delivered a talk on “Role of proteomics in solving biological problems” on 21st August, 2017. The talk was attended by the UG and PG students.
An orientation program was organized by the School for the new BSc batch of students on 1st August, 2017. It comprised of a brief introduction to the University and School achievements followed by introduction of the various faculty. Questions raised by the parents were also answered by the Dean and other faculty.
