B.Tech - Aerospace Engineering
The ability to fly off the ground is one of the highest achievements of Mankind. Be it in the sky or in outer space, the Aerospace Engineer is the one who makes it all possible.
Overview:
Aerospace Engineering is an upcoming field of engineering which deals with the development of aircraft and spacecraft. It consists of two major branches, Aeronautical engineering, and Astronautical engineering. Aeronautical engineering deals with aircraft, whereas Astronautical engineering deals with spacecraft. Aerospace Engineering broadly covers these two branches.
Aerospace engineering applies the principles of all branches of engineering, physics, mathematics and materials science for design, analysis, prototyping, manufacturing, and maintenance of aircraft and space craft systems. It requires an understanding of core concepts including Fluid mechanics, basic and applied thermodynamics, material science, structural mechanics, aerodynamics, control and stability, propulsion systems, electronics, and basic computational methods. Aerospace engineers use these core principles along with tools like Computer-Aided Engineering and Product Lifecycle Management to design and analyse various components used in space and aircraft systems and subsystems.
Aerospace Engineering science emerged has continually evolved to incorporate advancements in technology. Aerospace engineers today are pursuing developments in fields such as composites, mechatronics and micro &nano-technology, drone technologies, nano satellites. Aerospace Engineering is an inter disciplinary program which overlaps with mechanical, civil, electrical, electronic, communication and computer engineering domains to varying amounts.
There is tremendous scope for Aerospace engineers in commercial and defence sectors of aircraft industries and space industries. They have ample opportunities in both public and private sectors covering domestic and international organizations. Research in space exploration is a big attraction to aerospace engineers. There are exciting times ahead for aerospace engineers in drone technologies, satellite technologies, autonomous systems, air transport systems and space based internet technologies.
Aerospace Engineer can opt for various job openings such as Design Engineer, CAE Analyst, Shop Floor Engineer, Production Planning, Quality Assurance, Maintenance Engineer, Safety Engineer, Production Supervisor/Engineer, R&D Trainee, Scientists in prestigious research labs. etc.
The Department of AerospaceEngineering at DSU offers B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering, an undergraduate programme to create motivated, innovative and creative graduates to fill the roles of Aerospace Engineers who can conceptualize, design, analyse, develop and produce Mechanical Systems to meet the modern day requirements.
The B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering curriculum developed by the faculty of Department of Aerospace Engineering is outcome based and comprises required theoretical concepts and practical skills in the domain. By undergoing this programme, students develop problem-solving abilities for a smooth transition from academic to a real-life work environment. In addition, students are trained in interdisciplinary topics and attitudinal skills to enhance their scope. The above-mentioned features of the programme, advanced teaching, and learning resources, and experience of the faculty members with their strong connections with the manufacturing sector makes this programme unique.
