Prof. Nagaraj Subbarao conducted a workshop on ‘Demystifying Mentorship’ for doctors of the Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences on May 17, 2019. The workshop was extremely well attended and interactive.
Prof. Nagaraj traced the journey of mentorship from the Greek epic the ‘Odyssey’ to the present and his address was interspersed with various exercises delineating personality and behavioral patterns which play a significant role in the mentoring process. Mentoring is not an asymmetrical process but a two way relationship between a mentor and the protégé that calls for empathy and support.
The workshop concluded with a group decision making exercise called, the Alaskan Goldmine, which required for group members to make life changing high stakes decisions’. The group exercise was great fun and brought out very clearly the complexities of human behavior, attitudes, values and personality which have a great impact on mentoring.
The program was carried out under the aegis of the Centre for Executive Education, Dayananda Sagar University, Bangalore.
