All faculty members of the department are actively engaged in research. The students also pursue research as part of their MBA studies during the summer break by doing a two month corporate internship work. They also undertake a project work as part of their fourth semester studies, in their chosen area of specialization. 5 days Faculty Development Program held at SCMS DSU on "High Impact Research Writing in the Era of AI"
The School of Commerce & Management Studies (SCMS-PG) recently organized a transformative 5-days Faculty Development Program (FDP) on "High Impact Research Writing in the Era of AI" from April 21 to 25, 2025. This five-day hybrid FDP brought together distinguished academicians and research experts who shared their profound insights into the evolving landscape of research writing powered by Artificial Intelligence.
Each day of the program focused on a specialized theme, from understanding journal indexing and avoiding predatory publications, to leveraging AI tools for literature review, data analytics, writing enhancement, and improving research visibility. Eminent resource persons such as Dr. Amarnath, Dr. Sandeep Shastry, Dr. Padmanabuni, Dr. Senthil Kumar, and Dr. Bikash Ranjan led the sessions with exceptional clarity and expertise.
The FDP witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and industry professionals across India. It provided a unique platform to explore how AI can be ethically and effectively integrated into the research process, thereby enriching the academic output of today’s educators and researchers.
This initiative reflects SCMS's continued commitment to academic excellence and innovation in research.
One-Day Workshop held at SCMS -PG held on Patents and Copyrights
A highly informative one-day workshop on Patents and Copyrights was successfully conducted on 14th March 25 at Gallery -3 in SCMS -PG. Organized by Dr. Somnath Debnath and Dr. Silky Sharma, the event featured Prof. Nithin Rajeeve, a distinguished expert in Intellectual Property Law, as the resource person. The workshop aimed to provide a foundational understanding of IPR, specifically focusing on the identification, protection, and leveraging of innovative ideas through patents and brand identity through trademarks. The targeted audience included researchers, faculty, students, entrepreneurs, and individuals keen to grasp the essentials of securing their intellectual assets.
Prof. Rajeeve delivered an engaging session that covered the fundamentals of intellectual property, distinguishing between patents and copyrights while delving into their respective processes. For patents, he elucidated what constitutes a patentable invention, the different types available, and the intricacies of the application process, including drafting claims and understanding infringement. Regarding trademarks, the session highlighted the significance of brand identity, the criteria for trademark eligibility, the registration procedure, and the implications of infringement. The presentation was enriched with relevant case studies and practical examples, making complex legal concepts accessible to all attendees.
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session where Prof. Rajeeve addressed participant queries, providing valuable guidance. Feedback indicated strong satisfaction with the workshop's content and delivery, with attendees expressing enhanced clarity on protecting their innovations and brands. Future workshops may explore specific areas like patent drafting and international IP protection based on the feedback received. The organizers aim to continue such initiatives to foster a greater understanding and appreciation for Intellectual Property Rights within the community.
SCMS Case Centre Organizes Case Analysis on topic "Academic Freedom and Protests"
On January 31, 2025, the School of Commerce and Management Studies at Dayananda Sagar University hosted a highly engaging Case Analysis Event as part of its Case Club initiative. The session featured a thought-provoking discussion on the case authored by Prof. Muralidhara G.V., titled "Academic Freedom and Protests: Testing Time for Columbia University."
Prof. Muralidhara G.V., a seasoned academic and the Professor of Practice and Deputy Director at the SCMS Case Research Centre, led the discussion, providing deep insights into academic freedom's challenges and its intersection with social protests. The session explored the tensions that arise when universities become battlegrounds for ideological debates, focusing on balancing institutional autonomy and societal expectations.
Attendees, including students, faculty, and professionals, delved into the complexities of managing stakeholder interests while ensuring the core values of academic freedom remain intact. The event offered a unique platform to analyze real-world scenarios and derive actionable solutions, fostering critical thinking and collaborative learning.
CASE RESEARCH CENTRE INAUGURATION at SCMS DSU
The School of Commerce and Management Studies, Dayananda Sagar University Bengaluru launched the Case Research Centre on 3rd July 2024, Wednesday to mark a significant milestone in our academic journey. As per Capt. A Nagaraj Subbaro (Dean-SCMS), Case Research Centre at SCMS stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering innovation, research excellence, and industry relevance in education. With its launch, all the faculties, researchers and students, embark on a journey to cultivate a rich repository of case studies that will not only enrich learning experiences but also contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge in various fields in the business world and management education.

LEAPTECH National Conference 2024 was conducted by the School of commerce and management studies which was a resounding success, bringing together scholars, researchers, and students from diverse disciplines to exchange knowledge, ideas, and insights. Throughout the conference, thought-provoking presentations, engaging discussions, and innovative research findings contributed significantly to the collective understanding of various fields. The breadth and depth of research showcased at the conference highlight the intellectual vibrancy and academic excellence within our university community. From ground-breaking inputs to interdisciplinary collaborations addressing complex societal challenges, the breadth of topics covered reflects the richness and diversity of research pursuits.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dean - School of Commerce and Management Studies, Capt. A. Nagaraj Subbarao, PhD. The conference gained immense value with the presence of esteemed guests. Dr. S Devarajan, Head of Advanced Manufacturing at TVS Motors, was the Guest of Honor and delivered a captivating keynote address. Dr. Devarajan's insights into advanced manufacturing, coupled with his expertise in leadership, provided valuable inspiration to the attendees.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Rajashekhar Malur, Cluster Head of Plant Engineering & Design at Tata Consulting Engineers Limited, delivered an impactful address.
